Bonding
Bonding is the attachment of dental material to the tooth using a mild acid to prepare the surface and a resin that flows and then hardens in the microscopic grooves. Bonding can be done directly, with composite resin tooth-coloured filling, or indirectly, either with porcelain made by the dental laboratory or metal crowns. Some crowns are cemented without bonding, and some fillings are placed without bonding, relying on mechanical strength and interlocking to retain the restorations. Most of Dr. Perlmutter's restorative and cosmetic work involves bonding. The word "bonding" is often used to mean "aesthetic enhancement of teeth".
