Bridges

Dr. Perlmutter specializes in innovative bridge design. Where possible, he prefers to use internal rather than external retention to retain the bridge. Look at the Maryland bridge in the video below – it is designed for normal removal of healthy enamel. Imagine the metal retainer extending deep inside the tooth into the root canal. Standard Maryland bridges too often come loose. If they are anchored inside the tooth, loosening becomes a remote possibility, and maximum healthy enamel is still preserved. Removal of healthy enamel to accommodate crowns is unnecessary. Dr. Perlmutter's first such bridge, made in 1987, is still doing well. Many have been made since.
