Gum Treatment and Periodontal Treatment

This treatment removes the cause of the problem by thorough cleaning of the teeth in the dental office and at home. In some cases, antimicrobial agents are used to kill harmful bacteria. Sometimes, surgery is performed to remove unhealthy tissue and make the roots visible for more comprehensive cleaning. Hopeless teeth may be extracted. All of these approaches are designed to improve the host’s response – in essence, how the body reacts to harmful agents. Gum treatment should also include good nutrition, often assisted by high quality nutritional supplements. Without treatment, gum disease may result in bone loss, followed by loss of teeth. Gum disease is also associated with a higher risk of other ailments, including diabetes, stroke, heart attack, and pancreatic cancer. Unique to Bramalea Dentistry is the availability of both ozone therapy and low level laser light therapy for the treatment of some gum problems, to kill bacteria and/or enhance the host response.
